Nauset Beach South
Most important to note: There are many variables to this forecast and at any time if an unfledged brood adjusts its foraging range, the beach could close immediately between now and Monday. This is a real possibility.
The OSV Corridor on Nauset Beach South will hopefully remain open through the holiday weekend. Based on present nest locations and their hatch dates, we have scheduled to close Nauset Beach South due to unfledged piping plovers at 5 PM on Monday, May 29. If this scenario plays out, all vehicles will be expected to be off the beach and through the main gate by 5 PM on Monday. Staff is doing everything we can to keep the beach open through the holiday weekend. Please understand that this early closure date represents the fact that these initial nesting attempts were successful and early successful nesting could likely negate the likelihood of an extended closure into late summer. The Natural Resources staff would like to thank the beachgoers for your support and confidence in our team. With the way things are lining up, we hope to continue witnessing early season hatching. This is a critical point in the process and we need cooperation from the public now more than ever. Let’s hope that the shorebirds cooperate and we are able to remain open through Monday. Please continue to check for updates. Fingers crossed.
Nauset North (Residents)
Nauset North remains closed due to the lack of drivable beach. We remain hopeful that as the summer beach builds and the high tides of June back off, that some level of access will be on the table for this summer. Once again, we understand how important the Northside is the Town. We monitor it every day and will do everything we can to find a solution.
