[ARCHIVED] New Food Scrap Composting Program at the Transfer Station

Compost

The Town of Orleans has launched a new food scrap composting initiative at the Transfer Station - something residents have been asking for! Two dedicated compost bins are now available for dropping off food scraps and certified compostable materials. The material is collected weekly and brought to a facility that turns it into high-quality compost soil.

By participating, you’ll help lower the town’s contribution to landfills and support sustainability in our community. Review this link to find which items are acceptable; bags, plastics, and liquids are the most common contaminants and must not be added. The bins are lined with a certified compostable liner, so you can drop food scraps directly or in your own certified compostable bag.

Participation is voluntary, but every contribution helps the Transfer Station in its mission of promoting responsible waste handling.
