Affordable Housing Trust Fund Board

The Town of Orleans Affordable Housing Trust was established in 2019 by the Orleans Select Board to carry out the functions specified in Massachusetts law (MGL Chapter 44, Section 55C).  The purpose of the Trust is to provide for the creation and preservation of affordable housing In Orleans, for the benefit if low- and moderate-income households, and for the funding of community housing.  A Trust Fund Board, consisting of five to nine members appointed by the Select Board, serves as the Board of Trustees.

See Summary of Affordable Housing Projects Underway.

The Trust has funded the Affordable Housing Committee to do an Update of Housing Needs in Orleans and will jointly review the deliverables of the Update during 2023. For information and documents related to the Update of Housing Needs, go to Topics of Interest, Update of Housing Needs in Orleans.

Eight Housing-Related Warrant Articles were approved at the May 8, 2023, Town Meeting as part of the long-term effort to address the need for affordable housing. These articles represent additional tools that can be used in that effort. A flyer and video explaining the articles are available here.

The Trust Board, in an August 15 joint session with the Select Board, approved the Request for Proposals to be issued for redevelopment of the 66&76 Route 6A for housing (see 66&76 Route 6A Redevelopment).
