The Town of Orleans water system is supplied by groundwater through 8 wells and a membrane filtration plant. Water supply and pressure are maintained by 2 water storage reservoirs having a total capacity of 3 million gallons. The distribution system, with 102 miles of water mains and 939 hydrants, services over 5000 accounts.
The start-up of the new Orleans Water Treatment Plant took place in March 2005. The facility is state-of-the-art, with ultrafiltration membranes that are designed to remove iron and manganese from the water and provide a barrier to particles as small as bacteria and viruses. Only a few treatment plants across the country can match, or compete with the technology we use to produce drinking water. The Department is proud of this accomplishment and excited to produce and provide the Best Water on the Cape.
