Rules of Operation
- The Gift House is open to residents with a current Orleans Transfer Station pass.
- Parking is limited to 30 minutes, except for vehicles belonging to Gift House volunteers.
- No items are to be left when the building is closed or unattended by a volunteer on-site.
- Certain items may be subject to Transfer Station fees
- All items that are deemed unacceptable must be disposed of in designated areas, and not left to be dealt with by volunteers or Transfer Station attendants.
Acceptance of items is based on available space and in accordance with the lists below.
ACCEPTABLE ITEMS
- Any small appliances + machines in working order: toasters, coffeemakers, blenders, food processors, radios, cameras, telephones, record players, sewing machines, small microwaves, typewriters, vacuums, DVD + CD players
- Beach stuff — small rafts, boogieboards, umbrellas + sand toys
- Bicycles in repairable order
- Birdhouses + feeders
- Books — hardcovers, paperbacks (No mold, please)
- Children’s toys, games + puzzles
- Crafts
- Electrical fixtures, wires + cables
- Gardening pots + supplies, snowblowers, weeders + chainsaws
- Kitchen pots, pans, cooking utensils, tableware
- Lamps, lampshades, light fixtures + lightbulbs
- Paintings, prints, wall art + picture frames
- Skateboards + scooters
- Small tables, chests, cabinets, shelves + chairs
- Sporting goods + exercise equipment that isn’t too heavy
- Table linens in good shape
- Tools + hardware
- Vinyl record albums, CDs, DVDs, cassette tapes
- Walkers + canes
- Wreaths, baskets, candlesticks, vases + seasonal decorations
UNACCEPTABLE ITEMS
- Anything dirty, moldy or broken
- Bathtubs + sinks
- Bed linens + pillows
- Bike helmets (unless new)
- Car seats
- Clothing + shoes
- Computers, monitors + printers
- Dehumidifiers, humidifiers + air purifiers
- Drop-sided cribs
- Hazardous materials – gasoline, oil, pesticides, cleaning products, paints, solvents or other flammable liquids
- Large appliances – refrigerators, washers, dryers, dishwashers
- Large air conditioners
- Large microwaves
- Large rugs + dirty rugs
- Luggage without wheels
- Mattresses of any kind
- Medicine or medical equipment (other than walkers)
- Moldy books + magazines that are not collectables
- Stuffed animals
- Televisions
- Thermostats, thermometers or lightbulbs containing mercury
- Tires
- Toilets or toilet seats of any kind
- Upholstered furniture
- Windows, blinds + large window treatments
