Fireworks Postponed but a great time was had by all at the Orleans Parade!
Due to the threat of inclement weather and fog, Orleans 2013 4th of July Fireworks were postponed this year. We hope to reschedule to another date this summer. We will post the new date on the Orleans Town website when it is determined.
The start of the Parade was delayed for a bit because of an unrelated traffic incident on Rt 6A but that, and the incredible heat, did not hold back the estimated 8, 000 onlookers. The Parade had over 50 entrants, businesses, organizations and families. This does not include the numerous, and lively bands, the marching contingents, dignitaries, horses and large group of antique vehicles.
At the Awards Ceremony, following the Parade, Theme Contest Winner, Michela Galazzi, and Parade Grand Marshals, Paul and Margie Fulcher, were presented with Award Certificates. The following awards were presented for floats entered in the Parade.
The First Place Business Award, The Fritz Haubner Award, honors the memory of Fritz Haubner and his boundless spirit, dedication, and contribution to the Orleans business community, and his years of enthusiastically chairing the 4th of July Parades. This year the 1st Place went to The Farm, 2nd Place, Elaine Chase Dancers, and 3rd Place, The Orleans Yacht Club Sailing.
In the Non-Profit Award Category the First Place Award is the Bob Ward Memorial Award, honoring the memory of Bob Ward, who enthusiastically served on the first Town sanctioned 4th of July Celebration Committee. Carolyn Ward assisted in the presentation of these awards. First Place went to the Orleans Pond Coalition, 2nd Place, Namequoit Sailing, and 3rd Place, Orleans Cub Scout Pack 72.
In the Individual/Family Award Category, 1st place went to The Stewart Family, 2nd Place to the Ferraro Family, and 3rd Place, the Birdsall Family.
The Parade will be on Friday, July 4, 2014. The Fireworks date is yet to be determined but check back at our link on the Town of Orleans website http://www.town.orleans.ma.us/Pages/OrleansMA_BComm/july. If you
