The Charter Review Committee is appointed every seven years by the Board of Selectmen. The Committee is charged with reviewing the provisions of the Orleans Home Rule Charter and drafting amendments to sections which they find unclear, inappropriate, or inconsistent with its basic principles. The Charter Review Committee also solicits and reviews proposed amendments from elected and appointed officials as well as the general public. The Committee then holds a public hearing on the proposed amendments, and makes final recommendations to the Board of Selectmen. Recommendations approved by the Selectmen are submitted to the Annual Town Meeting, and are included on a subsequent election ballot for approval by all Town voters.

Thank you for your comments and suggestions. Charter amendments approved at the 2015 Annual Town Meeting will appear on the May 2016 election ballot.
